Game-day Recipe: Drink Edition — Spiked Arnold Palmer

When you can’t take the summer heat any longer, it’s easy to turn to a cocktail by the pool. While Southerners swoon over the classic tea-and-lemonade combination of an Arnold Palmer, we’ve upgraded the beloved drink with a little bit of bourbon. This summer sipper is perfect for a party because it makes about 10 servings with each batch. We steeped tea bags with sugar and lemon zest to really capture that lemon flavor of an Arnold Palmer, and then added fresh lemon juice and a healthy dose of bourbon for a tangy kick. You can even make this drink a day ahead – simply follow the recipe as directed but leaving out the ice and extra garnish slices; stir in lemons and ice cubes when you’re ready to serve.

Let’s go, Eagles!!

  • Pour boiling water over tea bags, sugar, and lemon zest in a large bowl. Stir until sugar is dissolved; cover and steep 5 minutes.

  • Pour mixture through a fine wire-mesh strainer into a large pitcher, discarding tea bags and zest. Stir in 4 cups cold water and next 2 ingredients. Cover and chill 30 minutes to 12 hours. Serve over ice. Garnish, if desired.
